Birkwood Hospital under marketing for sale

Birkwood House, a former country house estate, is now being marketed for sale as a development opportunity. The estate is formed around a gothic mansion house, constructed in various phases, then converted to serve as a hospital for Lanarkshire County Council in the 1920s.

Birkwood House was added to the At Risk Register in 2013 , having closed as a healthcare site some years previously and been the subject of a stalled redevelopment proposal. See the Register entry for the property, with details of the appointed sales agent, here: https://www.buildingsatrisk.org.uk/search/name_of_building/birkwood/orde.... Potential developers who wish to contact South Lanarkshire Council to discuss the planning status of the site can contact Ailsa.Shearer@southlanarkshire.gov.uk.
